Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is generally caused after an individual experiences, or witnesses, a traumatic event in which the individual experiences intense fear or horror and/or helplessness. PTSD symptoms are generally grouped into three types: (1) intrusive memories, (2) avoidance and numbing and (3) increased anxiety and/or emotional arousal.
The symptoms listed below are examples. Individuals may have unique experiences of symptoms for PTSD. Individuals may have more PTSD symptoms when things are stressful in their life or when running into reminders of the traumatic event.
