Summary of Experience:

I am a creative and fun-loving person.  I started college as a music major, then realized I was fascinated by people’s behaviors, choices, and how the brain works.  Along the journey of life, I earned a Masters Degree in Counseling, spent time working with troubled teens, and then landed at Larimer County Child Welfare where I stayed for close to 14 years as a Social Worker.  I gained a wealth of experience in this role working with families through some of their most difficult times.  In addition, I supported colleagues through a resilience program combating secondary trauma.  I have presented at several conferences around the country on the topic of building resilience among first responders.

I now enjoy providing strengths-based counseling to pre-teens, teens, individuals, couples, and families.  Watching someone realize their strengths and take action towards their dreams is incredibly rewarding.  I am so grateful that clients allow me into their lives.

Areas of Focus:

  • Building resilience and hope
  • Growing positive, healthy habits for mind, body and spirit
  • Intimacy, LGBTQIA+, body image, stress, overwhelm, grief, anxiety, depression, life changes, trauma, PTSD, Secondary Trauma, Burnout, etc.

I believe that everyone can find joy and meaning in their lives.  It can take time and practice to create more positive habits, but everyone has the ability to get there.  My work focuses on finding clients strengths, and building on those. Sometimes folks need to sit in the moments of pain before moving to healing.  I offer a safe and non-judgemental space for this work.  Some clients prefer concrete goals and homework while others need a more spontaneous approach.  I will cater sessions to what will most benefit the individual client.  I also love to blend art and play into sessions where it makes sense.  It is amazing to me how teens and adults work out their issues when they have a little paint, sand, or markers in hand.

Personal Statement:

When I’m not at Emery Counseling, I can be found at my growing insurance company – J. Lewis Agency.  Outside of work, you might see me on a jogging trail, dancing, or enjoying my back yard with family.  I have 3 adult children, two cats, and one husband 🙂
