Summary of Experience: I have had an incredibly rich and abundant life, although it hasn’t always taken a traditional path. Life hasn’t always been easy, but lessons I’ve learned have added to the meaning and depth of my experiences. After a long career with non-profits and healthcare, I came back to my original goal of becoming a counselor. I hope my life experiences can help me to be a source of strength and guidance for my clients.
Areas of Focus: The relationship between therapist and client is one of the keys to the success of the counseling process. It is essential to find a counselor whose areas of focus match your needs.
Individuals – Life throws unexpected challenges at all of us in ways that are hard to prepare to handle. Often these can leave us feeling overwhelmed, and without options for the happy, healthy life we hope to live. By examining our past, we can identify strategies to help you move forward into a better future.
Men – Men can face unique life challenges about their meaning and purpose as well as their roles as husbands and fathers. These are not always dealt with comfortably in a traditional counseling setting. By offering experiential counseling opportunities, we can dig deeper into what it means to be a man.
Parents – Whether you are new parents or preparing to be empty nesters, parenting provides a variety of challenges as we strive to do the best for our children. The stress of being a good parent can impact us in a variety of ways, including our marriages, jobs, and friendships. We will work together to find solutions to parenting difficulties that can free you to engage in the rest of your life more fully.
Couples – For most, our relationship with our spouse or significant other is the most important connection we have with another person. When issues arise within this relationship, it can leave us feeling adrift, angry, and scared. By making the relationship the “client,” we can work together to identify its weaknesses and what is best for strengthening the relationship.
Groups – There is a great benefit to coming together with others experiencing similar challenges in life to learn from one another and share in the process of growing and finding solutions with support and accountability from your group partners. Groups are created when a sufficient number of clients, with similar needs, are identified.
Philosophy: My philosophy is somewhat eclectic but has its roots in psychotherapy and existential psychology. I believe there is a great deal to be learned about our current difficulties by better understanding our past. I also think that the key to an abundant life is to find meaning and purpose for the things that we experience every day. Both the good and the bad. Using psychotherapy, behavioral techniques, and experiences, we can build both short-term and long-term solutions to those things keeping you from a more abundant life.
Personal: I enjoy the abundant life that Colorado offers both in the mountains and Denver. You can find me enjoying the outdoors skiing, hiking, camping, or cycling with my family. I also love to travel and experience different ways people live both within the U.S. and throughout the world. I’ve been to all 50 states and 4 continents. I find energy in experiencing life in a variety of ways – I look forward to learning more about what you enjoy!
